- 1Open the Dropbox referral URL and create a brand-new personal account.
- 2Install the Dropbox desktop application on a computer.
- 3Sign in to the desktop application for the first time with the new account.
- 4Confirm the email address Dropbox sends to complete tracking for both parties.
What you get
People opening their first Dropbox Basic account through a referral link receive an extra 500 MB beyond the usual 2 GB Basic allowance after they install the desktop application, sign in locally and confirm their email address.
Referrer side: 500 MB per referral on Basic (16 GB cap) or 1 GB on paid plans (32 GB cap)
Eligibility and gotchas
- Signing up on the inviter computer or upgrading an existing login does not qualify.
- Sharing a folder alone does not count as a referral completion.
- Dropbox team accounts cannot send referral invites under published rules.
